Thailand’s tourism industry is currently experiencing “overtourism”. If not properly managed, uncontrolled growth could overwhelm destinations and negatively impact the environment, local communities and visitor experience. Tourism factors are also impacted by climate change. Thailand is at the forefront of worsening climate change, facing alarmingly high levels of climate hazards and risks, including rising sea levels, flooding, rising temperatures, drought, coral bleaching and more. This photography project shows the rapid growth of tourism in the resort areas of Cha Am and Hua Hin through the construction of hotels, condominiums, artificial inland beach areas and golf courses, some of which are operational and others abandoned in the barren coastal scrub.
